My beliefs about health and nutrition may be a little different than what you are used to, or what the mainstream media and convention is saying. But I see the beginning of a shift and I have hopes that these "new" ideas will take deeper root. Because, these are not new ideas. Your body is an amazing creation with the wisdom and ability to heal itself. And it wants to. But if it isn't supported, it can't. Our bodies routinely have to deal with environmental and internal threats and are often forced to run on less-than-ideal fuel. There are ways to support our bodies and our health with proper rest, nutrition, movement, supplementation, and essential oils.
As a culture, we have learned to believe that health comes in the form of a pill, or even a supplement, and as such we don't have to make the conscious decision to take ownership of our physical health. Don't get me wrong, modern medicine is responsible for saving countless lives and if my life was threatened by an accident or injury, there is no place I would rather be than in one of our emergency rooms.
But in the day-to-day, the choice for health is yours. You could take the best vitamins and omega-3 oils, but if you're not getting enough sleep or eating too much unhealthy food, you can't get well or stay well. That being said, I don't expect anyone to change everything in their lives. That would be like making a New Year's resolution to "get healthy," and we know how well that works! Just look at the parking lot of a fitness center in January. And then again in April. Change can be hard. Much change can be much hard. Ok, that's not grammatically correct, but you get the idea. I have had others laugh at me and roll their eyes, but I believe that if you can make one change, you can make a difference. And it's a good start because after a while, it isn't change. It's your normal. And the next change might even be easier.
There are those who can change everything. All at once. They can give up sugar, wheat, bad fats, most fruit, alcohol, etc., go all organic, and start jogging. Actually, I don't know anyone like that. And heaven knows, I am not like that myself. But I started with that one first step. And truthfully, that first step was education--and not in the classroom. I started reading and listening, and I cross referenced what I was learning with multiple sources, and when the information agreed, and made sense, I started to think that maybe there was something to this healthier living idea. Then I made that first change. Then another. I am not perfect and honestly, I still occasionally struggle with making healthy choices.
Your first step may be as simple as learning what that first step is! Maybe you've been on this road for a while and need help with the next step. Because, this is a journey. Not a straight line, but a forward motion. As a health coach I can be a supportive wellness mentor, helping you feel your best through food & lifestyle changes, helping you begin that forward motion. And forward motion becomes a forward momentum. And momentum takes you places.
